SUMMARY:The Bidwell Artisan Fair
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a free community day at the Bidwell House Museum\n\n\nOn Saturday June 27th the Bidwell House Museum is excited to present the Bidwell Artisan Fair. During this free community event\, visitors to the Museum will have the opportunities to see numerous craftspeople creating items as varied as spoons\, lace\, chairs and paper. Many of the artisans will be using historical techniques and creating beautiful items in ways similar to New England craftspeople hundreds of years ago. In addition to craft demonstrations\, visitors will also be able to see Revolutionary War reenactors demonstrating a “camp kitchen” and hear music from Shinbone Alley. There will also be a scavenger hunt for kids and snacks for purchase. \nArtisan Demonstrations will include: \nAndrew Jack makes and teaches the construction of Windsor chairs using a blend of contemporary and traditional techniques. . Working with green wood and hand tools allows his handmade chairs and woodenware to appear and feel “light” and “delicate” yet maintain the strength of a tree. \nJill Hawkins from the New England Lace Group will demonstrate the historic craft of bobbin lacemaking\, which originated in the 16th century. Learn how lace is made by hand and try it yourself! \nChris Templin will demonstrate the age old skill of blacksmithing and also show some of his metal work. \nNancy Donovan will show you the fine art of paper quilling \nCamp Kitchen with Tommy Tringale Be sure to visit the recreated camp kitchen and see how Continental Army soldiers during the American Revolution cooked their meals and what personal belongings they carried while on campaign during the conflict with England. This demonstration is weather dependent and will not happen if rain is forecast. \nIn addition to these demos\, we are also excited to welcome Shinbone Alley to the stage for the afternoon. Alex Harvey is an old-world folklorist who performs street ballads and songs of the sea in a project he calls Shinbone Alley. At his performances listeners learn to celebrate the haunting intercultural exchange of 18th and 19th century maritime music – whose ingredients travelled from the furthest corners of the globe to be remade and stitched anew by sailors of every shade and shape at port and at sea. \n  \nAdditional activities may be added before the event\, so check back here for the most up to date information. \nPre-registration is not required for this event\, but if you do plan to attend\, getting a free ticket does help us to know how much food and drink to have on hand. \n  \nThis program is supported in part by grants from Lee Bank along with the Monterey\, Otis\, Sheffield and Tyringham Cultural Councils\, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Berkshire Pride Art Exhibit Opening @ Becket Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Meet & celebrate queer artists\, their amazing works\, enjoy wine\, cheese\, & diverse creativity while many try to silence queer artists\n\n\nAMPLIFYING QUEER CREATIVITY: In thIs Opening Reception you’ll be able to meet the diverse group of local LGBTQ+ artists selected by our jury to represent the extraordinary diversity & creativity of local artists. Meet the artists & learn about their works\, and some of the incredible stories and techniques that informed their work and lives. \nAs recent government actions try to erase and defund all Diversity\, Equity & Inclusion efforts in government\, education\, & the arts\, a coalition of local organizations (Becket Arts Center\, Q-MoB\, Berkshire Queer History Project) is responding in a very creative Berkshire way: they are hosting the 2nd Annual Berkshire LGBTQ+ Pride Art Exhibit featuring local LGBTQ+ artists at the Becket Arts Center\, 6/13-7/5 and calling on local LGBTQ+ artists to submit work for the exhibit by 3/1/26 \nLGBTQ artists have been integrally involved in building and sustaining all of the arts institutions in the Berkshires for more than 200 years\, and have been woven into the fabric of the creative economy that makes the Berkshires famous all over the world. So of course in 2025 a coalition of local organizations want to celebrate their contributions by showing their works at a special Pride Exhibit at the Becket Arts Center. Many people know the famous LGBTQ artists who have created world-famous works in the Berkshires like Leonard Bernstein\, Aaron Copland\, & Ted Shawn\, but fewer people know the many local queer artists who make the works we see in our homes\, businesses\, local stages\, galleries\, & museums. This Pride Exhibit is for those artists who are your neighbors\, colleagues\, & friends. \nThe Berkshire Queer History Project (BQHP) will be on hand filming stories from both artists and their patrons about the local LGBTQ+ artists who have made our lives better by making\, exhibiting or performing in the Berkshires. This exhibit is a chance for BQHP to capture stories about past\, present\, and emerging LGBTQ artists and hear their stories in their own words — about the importance of local art\, about their process of making art\, and the ways their queerness does and does not affect their work. \nLEARN MORE ABOUT THE EXHIBIT: After 5/15\, click this Exhibit Link to learn more about the exhibit and the artists who are featured in it. \nARTISTS PLEASE CLICK TO SUBMIT WORKS FOR THE EXHIBIT BY 3/1/26
